As I was starting my academic career at GMU, I joined a few other DC-area graduate students to help organize Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM)s first PhD Student Professional Development Workshop, the day before the 2013 Fall Conference. The next year marked my first panel presentation at APPAM’s Fall Conference, and since then I felt the need to become more involved. In 2015 I was the inaugural Chair of the Student Advisory Committee, which helped APPAM’s goal to understand and better cater to its student membership. Under my erratic leadership, the SAC implemented student-focused Brown Bag Presentations in the DC area, and created the Student Lounge at the Fall Conference, a unique space for students to recharge, work and take advantage of special programming. In 2016 I was chosen for a two year term as the Student Representative on APPAM’s Policy Council. As a voting member of the Association’s board, I am able, along with the other Student Rep, to make sure that a student perspective and a student voice is always part of the discussion.
